Make Rhody Ramble Part of Your Family's Summer Plans

Rhody Ramble

In an effort to help kids and families explore Rhode Island's unique historic places, Preserve Rhode Island has developed a program involving 18 organizations of the Historic Sites Coalition of Rhode Island. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, these historic sites are hosting programming that is created especially for families, and Hearthside and the Hannaway Blacksmith Shop/Chase Farm Park are among them! The Rhody Ramble offers many different ways for kids to connect with Rhode Island's history and discover its hidden treasures, all in a fun and challenging way.

To participate, visit any one of the historic sites and pick up a Rhody Ramble brochure. After your visit, have a staff member adhere a Rhody Ramble sticker in your brochure on the space for that historic site. That proves that you explored the site. Next is the challenging part. At each historic site, there will be a Rhode Island Red rooster symbol hidden somewhere. It could be a figure, a picture, or even a live rooster. Once the "Rhody Red" is located, add its location in on the box with the sticker. Over the summer, visit at least three or more sites and fill your brochure with stickers and rooster locations. Then enter the contest to win some fun family prizes by logging in to www.RhodyRamble.org.

While on Great Road, take a hike at Chase Farm Park and stop by the Hannaway Blacksmith Shop to watch a blacksmith at work. Take a tour at Hearthside during our Color & Light exhibit, or the August 11th Garden Party. Also take the opportunity to visit our neighbor, the Arnold House, just down the street from Hearthside. Kids activities will be found at all! Just get your brochure and sticker, and look hard for that rooster! It's a great summer activity to get kids interested in history!
