Hearthside - The House That Love Built

200 Years in the Making

Keepsake Ornament of Historic Hearthside Now Available

Great masterpieces stand the test of time. Back in 1810 when Beethoven was in the midst of becoming one of the most influential composers of all time and future President Abraham Lincoln was celebrating his first birthday, a local legend was being born on Great Road in the town of Lincoln (then Smithfield). A massive yet elegant stone manor was being constructed in this outpost of Providence that today stands as testament to the ingenuity and passion of our country’s forefathers. Built to win the heart of a young lady with money he won in a lottery, Stephen Hopkins Smith has left Lincoln with a magnificent gem that truly is “The House That Love Built,” one of the most beautiful buildings in New England.

Two hundred years later, Hearthside still commands a strong presence along the historic Great Road and is alive with new life as a house museum and center of historic reenactments. To commemorate this special 200th Anniversary, a beautiful custom-designed brass ornament depicting this unique and impressive Rhode Island landmark has been created by Lincoln’s ChemArt Company, nationally-renowned designer of the White House ornament collection. The etched ornament captures intricate details and elegance of Hearthside from its two-story white pillared porch to its gracefully curved roofline and decorative round windows. Even an antique buggy that Stephen would have used to bring his ladylove to see Hearthside is featured.

“The Hearthside 200th Anniversary Keepsake Ornament makes the ideal gift to mark a special occasion during 2010, such as a wedding, anniversary, a new baby, a milestone birthday, graduation, a welcome gift to a new resident in town, Christmas gift, or just as a memorable collectible to own,” states Kathy Hartley, president of Friends of Hearthside.

Proceeds from the sale of the ornament benefit the Friends of Hearthside’s Capital Improvement Fund, providing the necessary funds for its continued restoration so that this precious historic gem will be around for at least another 200 years.

The Hearthside 200th Anniversary ornament may be purchased for $18 at the Hearthside Gift Shop at 677 Great Road, which is open during special events and tours at the house. Ornaments may also be ordered by phone at 401-726-0597, or you may purchase by clicking the link below.
